A West Nashville Persian restaurant is serving family recipes that span thousands of years of culinary tradition.
Naz Kiani moved to Tennessee from Iran when she was 12 years old and experienced culture shock adjusting to life in America. But at home, she could always rely on the familiar tastes of Persian cuisine.
“Think about 3000 plus. That’s so much history and so much to be proud of,” Kiani said.
That pride motivated her to share Persian food with Nashville through her restaurant Noôsh, which features family recipes from both her own family and her mother-in-law.
“It’s rooted in so much history that I feel like not being able to represent it and introduce it to other people would be such a waste,” Kiani said.
The menu consists entirely of family recipes passed down through generations.
“This is about those traditions that get passed on, you know. And I feel like that’s the only way to do it,” Kiani said.
Her mother-in-law has contributed many of the restaurant’s dishes.
“She’s been graciously sharing her own recipes and her family recipes with us through the stews, the spreads and just the love that she puts into cooking,” Kiani said.
The restaurant prioritizes quality ingredients including fresh herbs and quality meat, even when it could save costs elsewhere.
“The way we would cook it at home for our own families. That’s how much this means to us. That’s how much the experience of the customer means to us. That we would cook the food that we would do for our own family,” Kiani said.
Kiani said the restaurant has felt welcomed by the Nashville community during its first month of operation.
“It’s a family restaurant. And we take pride in that,” she said.
